New Chair, MD of BOC Bangladesh

The Board of Directors of BOC Bangladesh Limited (BOCB), a member of The Linde Group has announced that Mr Ayub Quadri will succeed Mr M Syeduzzaman as Chairman of BOCB effective from Thursday.

Mr Syeduzzaman stepped down as Chairman effective from Thursday, after 20 years of dedicated and invaluable service at the helm of the Board.

Mr Quadri has been a Director of the Company since 2008 and has been serving as its Audit Committee Chairman. He has held various positions within the Government of Bangladesh, including those of permanent secretaries in the Ministries of Industries, Water Resources, Economic Relations, Food, Fisheries & Livestock, Agriculture & Rural Development. Mr Quadri was an Advisor of the Caretaker Government that assumed responsibility in January 2007, and was also Chairman of the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation, Director General of the Bangladesh Rural Development Board, and has served on numerous other Boards.

The Board of Directors also congratulated Mr Erphan Shehabul Matin, who assumes the position of Managing Director of BOCB effective 13 May, as announced by the Company earlier in January. Mr Matin succeeds Mr Waliur Rahman Bhuiyan who opted for early retirement due to health reasons.

A company veteran, Mr Matin joined BOC Bangladesh in 1980 and was appointed to the Board of Directors since 2008. Mr Matin's last position was Business Director of the Company responsible for Sales and Marketing, Distribution & Customer Engineering Services, Projects and Procurement. He has been transitioning into the Managing Director role over the past few months.

The Board of Directors expressed its deepest gratitude to both Mr Syeduzzaman and Mr Bhuiyan for their many years of outstanding service and wished them good health and every success in their retirement.

Mr Lee Bon Hian, Head of Cluster Countries for Linde's gases business in South & East Asia, said, "Both Mr Syeduzzaman and Mr Bhuiyan are remarkable leaders who have worked tirelessly to grow the business of BOC Bangladesh. We are deeply grateful for their deep commitment and enormous contributions over the years. We have full confidence that Mr Quadri and Mr Matin will be able to further build on the Company's strong foundations and steer BOCB into the next phase of sustainable growth."
